The financial impact on pig farmers, whose swine suffered from the porcine epidemic diarrhea, extended to 9 % of their gross sales. This was particularly serious with regard to farmers with smaller sales volumes. In addition, the relentless deaths of piglets, day after day, caused psychological distress to the owners and their workers. There were further problems, such as the recurrence of the disease after vaccination and disinfection, as well as an increase, by approximately 19 %, in the wholesale price of pork. In this regard, "regional industrial complex" agriculture takes a very important position, and the role of the agricultural cooperative is large. Many agricultural cooperatives are actually tackling the processing business and positioning of the agricultural cooperatives in local agriculture is also high. In Tanabe City, the case area of this paper, not only production industries, but also processing industries and distribution industries exist in the area which focuse on plums as a key industry. Moreover, plum-related tourist attractions, such as plum forests, are found and form a "regional industrial complex". In this area, the Kinan agricultural cooperative plays important roles in promotion of production, contribution to bearer reservation, distribution, processing and sale of plums. Specially, having the processing section on the inside, the agricultural cooperative sell the plums as a processor. So it has functions of adjusting supply and demand of plums and keeping the level of its price for farms. In the processing business, it contributes to make employment in this area in employing staffs and part-time workers. Thinking about the future, keeping the "regional industrial complex" will be difficult by increasing import plums and so on. Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, The Study of Technical Innovations in Production and Transportation of Self-supplied Feed by Maize Wrap Machine., 20120401, 20150331, ARAKI Kazuaki; KOITO Kentaro; SIMIZUIKE Yoshiharu; INOUE Seiji; SUGIMURA Yasuhiko; AWAJI Kazunori; YOSHIOKA Toru; MORI Hisatsune, Maize Wrap Machine is innovative in production and transportation of self-supplied feed of animal industry and dairy industry in Japan. The result of our survey clearly shows three points. Firstly, Maize Wrap Machine enables us to preserve grass silage, maize silage and food residues for a long term. Secondly, compressed self-supplied feed and TMR by this machine makes possible distribution through a wide area. Thirdly, this machine changes the structure of feeding system by improving the efficiency of works on dairy farms in Iwate prefecture. Maize Wrap Machine can strengthen the international competitiveness of dairy industry in Japan and increase the rate of self-sufficiency in feed. | Analysis of the economic impact on the pig farmers and their corporate management caused by the spread of the porcine epidemic diarrhea among domestic swine, Tulafu Ayinuer, Research of One Health (ROH), 2015, 2015 10 , This study reviewed cases in Kagoshima, Miyazaki, and Akita prefectures, as well as in Hokkaido, with reference to the effects of the porcine epidemic diarrhea on the corporate management of pig farmers in Japan. The financial impact on pig farmers, whose swine suffered from the porcine epidemic diarrhea, extended to 9 % of their gross sales. This was particularly serious with regard to farmers with smaller sales volumes. In addition, the relentless deaths of piglets, day after day, caused psychological distress to the owners and their workers. There were further problems, such as the recurrence of the disease after vaccination and disinfection, as well as an increase, by approximately 19 %, in the wholesale price of pork. Research has revealed that effective countermeasures, such as the isolation of the stock/virus and the development of a new vaccine, are vital. |

| The Function and Roles of Processing Business of Agricultural Cooperative in "Regional Industrial Complex" : The Case of Plum Processing Business of Kinan Agricultural Cooperative, YOSHIOKA Tohru; TOMITA Keiji; NAITOH Shigeyuki; FUJITA Takehiro, The Agricultural Marketing Journal of Japan, 11, (2) 133 - 138, 2002 , 10.18921/amsj.11.2_133, These days, reforming the old external-dependent development by making a "regional industrial complex" is being proposed as a concept which uses regional resources rationally. In this regard, "regional industrial complex" agriculture takes a very important position, and the role of the agricultural cooperative is large. Many agricultural cooperatives are actually tackling the processing business and positioning of the agricultural cooperatives in local agriculture is also high. In Tanabe City, the case area of this paper, not only production industries, but also processing industries and distribution industries exist in the area which focuse on plums as a key industry. Moreover, plum-related tourist attractions, such as plum forests, are found and form a "regional industrial complex". In this area, the Kinan agricultural cooperative plays important roles in promotion of production, contribution to bearer reservation, distribution, processing and sale of plums. Specially, having the processing section on the inside, the agricultural cooperative sell the plums as a processor. So it has functions of adjusting supply and demand of plums and keeping the level of its price for farms. In the processing business, it contributes to make employment in this area in employing staffs and part-time workers. Thinking about the future, keeping the "regional industrial complex" will be difficult by increasing import plums and so on. So, it is required that agricultural cooperative shows the initiative in making places for adjusting interests and exchanging news and tackling to improve the quality of plums. |

The result of our survey clearly shows three points. Firstly, Maize Wrap Machine enables us to preserve grass silage, maize silage and food residues for a long term. Secondly, compressed self-supplied feed and TMR by this machine makes possible distribution through a wide area. Thirdly, this machine changes the structure of feeding system by improving the efficiency of works on dairy farms in Iwate prefecture. Maize Wrap Machine can strengthen the international competitiveness of dairy industry in Japan and increase the rate of self-sufficiency in feed. |
